KinderSmile Oral Health Program (KSOHP)

KinderSmile Foundation (KSF) provides a comprehensive oral health program providing services to children and families at-risk. Prevention and Early Intervention services will include on-site visits to Early Childhood Programs serving children 0 -5 years, and pre and postnatal women in Montclair and Orange and East Orange, NJ; three Day Care centers in Montclair; A Community Charter Elementary School serving children K through grade 4 in East Orange and ARC Kohler School for children with special needs located in Mountainside, NJ.

Examination and preventive care with prophylaxis, topical fluoride treatment with application of fluoride varnish will be provided to children with written parent consent for such services. Children diagnosed with moderate to severe dental caries will be referred for follow-up care; Completion of recommended follow up treatments will be verified through KSF Dental Health Data tracking system. Access to existing dental home for all verified; uninsured and underserved children provided with resources for access to dental home listed in NJ Smiles Directory.

KSF Oral Health Education program works with the existing curricula used by the participating programs or can provide an age appropriate dental health education curriculum. Education provided to children, parents and care givers will address importance of early intervention, prevention, practice of oral hygiene in school and at home, periodic dental checkups; benefits of using fluoride tooth paste, fluoride rinse, topical application of fluoride by dental professionals and use of systemic fluoride when indicated. Emphasis is also placed on healthy eating/ feeding habits to reduce incidence of dental caries. All our service areas have no community water fluoridation. Children are given an age-appropriate free kit with tooth brush, tooth paste, dental floss and oral health education brochures Tooth Fairy.
