What is CSLP?
KinderSmile Community Service Learning Program (CSLP) offers mentorship and guidance to students from high school to college and beyond. Through hands-on experiences, students develop leadership skills while supporting the mission and goals of KinderSmile Foundation.
CSLP volunteers and interns have opportunities to become actively involved in KinderSmile Foundation’s programs and Dental Homes. Students may assist dental providers, support oral health education, participate in community outreach, collect program data, and represent KinderSmile Foundation at local health fairs and community events such as Give Kids a Smile Day.
Through these experiences, students gain a greater understanding of Public Health Dentistry and community service. They also learn about oral health inequities and the barriers that underserved children and families face when accessing dental care.
Dedicated CSLP volunteers may elevate their roles within the organization and serve as ambassadors for oral health in New Jersey and abroad. Students become cognizant of the lack of access to oral health care among at-risk children and families, and the impact on their overall health. They gain a greater appreciation for their blessings through opportunities to join KinderSmile Foundation’s annual global outreach trips to countries such as Haiti, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and Uganda.
