A Special Patient Story

A Special Patient Story

On behalf of the entire KinderSmile Foundation Village, we express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support. Your generosity brings hope and smiles to those who need it most.

In November we met patient K, who recently arrived from Guatemala with his mother. Mom is a single parent who is trying to make ends meet by working in a restaurant and cleaning houses. Because of their visa status, and the fact that K’s birth certificate was missing, K was not able to qualify for Medicaid/NJ FamilyCare.

Knowing that K had been suffering with dental pain and infections for a very long time, mom had been saving some money aside for it. When she could not wait any longer, she asked a family member to bring them in for an initial visit, and was discouraged to find out the extent of the treatment he needed.

We are grateful that K qualified for an In the Gap grant from America’s ToothFairy, which will enable KinderSmile Foundation to provide all the necessary care for K, improve his smile and confidence, and impact his overall health.

K’s story is one of very many that we see everyday, as we strive to close the gap in access to oral health care for marginalized and vulnerable communities in New Jersey.  #ItTakesAVillageKSF
